This data is a Lidar-derived estimate of site index, which is a measure of site productivity. It was developed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources using Lidarthat was collected in 2019. It represents the height of dominant or co-dominant trees at a base age of 50 years. In each of the PBI plots, at least one dominant or co-dominant tree (site tree) was cored for age determination and total height was measured. The equations in Carmean et al. (1989) were used to calculate site index, and the value obtained for a given site tree were considered to be representative of the plot and the entire stand where it was located. The site index values from 120 sample locations and co-located Lidarmetrics were used to build a spatial relationship (linear regression model) that was finally extended over the entire area of interest using selected Lidarpredictors at 20-m spatial resolution. This information can provide foresters a better understanding of the landscape and how it should be managed., Update frequency: None planned
