- Fertilizer (Manure) - Phosphorus [Minnesota] {2021}
- Description:
- This data layer shows estimated phosphorus (elemental pounds) applied to the landscape from livestock manure in Minnesota by HUC8 watershed in 2021. It was developed by the University of Minnesota. Livestock data were acquired from both the the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's Feedlot Registration Database and the National Agricultural Statistics Service data on animal inventories and includes beef, dairy, swine and poultry. Manure values were calculated using two methods based on coefficients from the Nutrient and Manure Management tables from the UMN Extension, and final values were an average of the two methods, representing nutrients applied to the landscape after storage losses. Agriculture is an important economic activity in Minnesota. When not properly managed, excess nutrients from agriculture can enter surface and groundwater. Update frequency: As needed
