- Title:
- Ecological Land Type Associations [Minnesota]
- Description:
- This coverage provides information for the fourth level of the Ecological Classification System. Polygon boundaries were delineated at a scale of 1:100,000 with a visual/interpretative process using a variety of biological and physical land surface features. Polygon labels follow the National Hierarchical Framework of Ecological Units protocol. Landscape planning for forest resources management, natural community inventory and restoration, wildlife habitat potential analysis. The Great Lakes Ecological Assessment web site contains a collection of new and existing environmental, biological, and socioeconomic information for portions of Minnesota; some of which is summarized by LTA. http://www.ncrs.fs.fed.us/gla LTA polygons reflect landscape-scale physical characteristics that are relatively resistant to changes due to land use practices. Therefore, LTA boundaries are relatively stable, but will reflect conditions portrayed in the parent data sets. The data used to interpret these characteristics were of 1994 to 1997 vintage. One exception is that iron mining activities (e.g. open pits, overburden piles, and tailings basins) have significantly altered the landscape since the digital elevation model data was captured to create shaded relief maps. As new data becomes available, LTA boundaries will be refined.
