Title
TMDL Wasteload Allocation Areas for MS4s [Minnesota]
Description
This dataset consists of a unified geospatial database that delineates total maximum daily load (TMDL) modeled waste load allocation (WLA) drainage basin boundaries intersecting with municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) boundaries. The database serves as a resource for Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) staff and external partners, enabling the visualization of modeled WLA drainage areas within a Geographic Information System (GIS) framework. The dataset enhances compliance documentation for MS4 permits and supports spatial analyses with various environmental data layers, including feedlots, surface water discharge points, riparian areas, and green infrastructure. Basin boundaries are based on the modeled drainage area and may not align with one another. This dataset is generally intended to be used with definition queries to identify WLA drainage areas for specific TMDL projects., Where municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4) discharge to an impaired waterbody or a waterbody with an approved total maximum daily load (TMDL), the MS4 must include a process in the municipality’s stormwater management program to address the TMDL. This database provides TMDL modeled waste load allocation (WLA) drainage basin boundaries which overlap with MS4 boundaries. This spatial database gives MPCA staff and external partners the ability to visualize the spatial extent of modeled WLA drainage areas in a GIS context and allows for more efficient documentation of project compliance with MS4 permits. The database can also be used in spatial analysis operations with other spatial data layers that map features in the environment such as feedlots, surface water discharge locations, riparian areas, and green infrastructure. The availability of this data will help support collaboration between various organizations involved in water resource management and impaired waters issues in Minnesota.
