Forest Health Survey 2016 [Minnesota]
Description
This dataset shows where largescale tree damage was delineated in aerial surveys in 2016. Forests in much, but not all, of northern Minnesota were surveyed, as well as far southeastern Minnesota. Only forest disturbances were mapped if they were occurring at the time of the flight, and flights primarily occurred in late June and July. The following were the most common disturbers, listed from largest area disturbed to smallest area disturbed: spruce budworm, eastern larch beetle, wind, larch casebearer, aspen decline, forest tent caterpillar, flooding, emerald ash borer, jack pine budworm, and twolined chestnut borer., The purpose of this survey is to indicate where significant and highly noticeable tree defoliation and mortality occurred. Another purpose of these surveys is to monitor general trends in forest health conditions (previous years' aerial survey data is available through the Forest Health unit of the MNDNR)., Time Period of Content date indicates the date which the user can be confident of accuracy and completeness of the dataset.
