Abstract
This layer illustrates target areas as submitted by Choice Neighborhood Program award grantees. Choice Neighborhoods grants build upon the successes of public housing transformation under HOPE VI to provide support for the preservation and rehabilitation of public and HUD-assisted housing, within the context of a broader approach to concentrated poverty. In addition to public housing authorities, the initiative involves local governments, non-profits, and for-profit developers in undertaking comprehensive local planning with residents and the community. Specifies whether the applicant received a Choice Neighborhoods Planning grant or Implementation grants. Choice Neighborhoods Planning grants support the development of comprehensive neighborhood revitalization plans which focused on directing resources to address three core goals: Housing, People and Neighborhoods. Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grants support those communities that have undergone a comprehensive local planning process and are ready to implement their “Transformation Plan” to redevelop the neighborhood.

HOUSING_TYPE
The type of housing targeted by the Choice Neighborhoods application. Eligible housing types include housing assisted under sections 8 or 9 of the United States Housing Act of 1937 (42 U.S.C. 1437f and 42 U.S.C 1437g), section 202 of Housing Act of 1959 (12 U.S.C. 1701q), and section 811 of the National Affordable Housing Act of 1990 (42 U.S.C 8013), and Indian Housing assisted by NAHASDA. Project-based vouchers (section 8o(13) of the US Housing Act of 1937, as amended) are included in the Section 8 definition, but tenant-based vouchers are excluded except as permitted by HUD.
