The map is detailed with many cities and towns including the rail and road network available in 1848. It was reproduced 10 years at the time of the Indian Mutiny, when strategic movement of British troops was vital to quell the uprisings in Delhi, Lucknow, Cawnpoor [i.e. Kanpur], and Allahabad over the period 1857 and 1858.
