Description
This is the national compilation dataset of dams for the United States, including Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Updated 12/1 2023. This dataset feeds the National Aquatic Barrier Prioritization Tool at aquaticbarriers.org. This dataset includes large regulated dams, small dams,unregulated dams, diversion dams, farm ponds, and lowhead dams. It was compiled from multiple sources using the national inventory of dams as a baseline.In addition to state and local datasets, national barrier datasets used in this inventory include theNational Inventory of Dams,USGS Waterfalls of the Conterminous U.S., andUSGS Database of Stream Crossings in the U.S.Barriers are snapped to aquatic networks derived from theUSGS High Resolution National Hydrography Datasetsupplemented with additional information from theNational Wetlands Inventory. Along with national data sources, several other regional and state efforts to collect barrier data were included in this inventory and are regularly updated within. To see a list of data sources as well as a link to submit a missing data source, visit aquaticbarriers.orgEROM monthly mean flows were spatially joined to this layer from the EPA NHDPlus V2.1 flowline data (https://www.epa.gov/waterdata/learn-more).
