Crashes resulting in serious injuries or death are used to determine if a segment qualifies as a high-crash segment. In order to qualify, there must be 10 or more serious injury or fatal crashes in any 5-year period. Generally, one-mile segments with 10 or more serious or fatal crashes represent particularly dangerous road segments on the city's network.
