The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy's (EGLE) Lake Michigan Circuit Program provides grant funding for strategic placement of electric vehicle chargers along the coastline of Lake Michigan. Optimal locations and quantities for chargers have been determined in part through a study conducted by Michigan State University titledElectric Vehicle Charger Placement Optimization in Michigan: Phase III - Lake Michigan Circuit. Each optimal location has been assigned a node number (#100-110 for fast chargers and #200-227 for level 2 chargers). This data layer represents all the nodes (i.e., optimal locations) and how many chargers are existing/still needed per node as of July 2024. The information provided in this data layer includes each node number/location, number of existing chargers funded by EGLE's Lake Michigan Circuit Program, number of needed chargers as determined in part by the Michigan State University study, number of remaining needed chargers (i.e., chargers needed after taking into account the existing chargers), type of charger that the affiliated node is eligible for (i.e., fast charger or level 2 charger), and notes with any additional relevant information. This data is used to determine met and unmet infrastructure needs in the electric vehicle charging network to inform future funding decisions within the Lake Michigan Circuit Program. This data is regularly updated.
