These organisms are not native to New Jersey waters, however they have the potential to become a public health issue (albeit localized) once established due to their potent sting. The following dataset represents observations of (i.e. presence vs. absence) and sampling efforts to detect clinging jellyfish in select coastal waters and embayments of New Jersey, beginning June 9th, 2016 to present. The purpose is to provide the general public with up to date information on the areas where this species has been observed, as well as to provide estimates on abundance. Montclair State University, along with NJDEP's Division of Science, Research and Environmental Health (lead program) and the Division of Water Quality Standards, Bureau of Marine Water Monitoring are the agencies/programs involved with the sampling efforts and dissemination of results. 2016 Sampling efforts.</dc:description><dc:format>ArcGIS DynamicMapLayer</dc:format><dc:identifier>https://hub.arcgis.com/datasets/d2cdc4b03fbc4b39838765e351da402a_0</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:publisher>New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's (NJDEP) Bureau of GIS</dc:publisher><dc:rights>Public</dc:rights><dc:title>Clinging Jellyfish (Gonionemus Vertens) Monitoring Locations in New Jersey [New Jersey]</dc:title><dc:type>Web services</dc:type><dc:coverage>New Jersey</dc:coverage><dc:date>Last Modified: 2026-01-02</dc:date></oai_dc:dc>
