WADOHThis feature layer shows the average transportation noise over a 24-hour period, measured in dBA LAeq, a unit that reflects how people hear sound. It combines noise from roads, rail, and aircraft into a single value representing overall daily noise exposure at each location. Being exposed to loud noise over long periods can affect sleep, stress, learning, and overall health. Communities located closest to major roads, rail lines, or flight paths often experience the most noise. Those most affected include historically minoritized communities, children, older adults, people with fewer financial resources, and anyone living or working near busy transportation routes. This feature layer was created using 2020 transportation noise data from the United States Department of Transportation's National Transportation Noise Map, published by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics ( National Transportation Noise Map Bureau of Transportation Statistics ). The data were processed following the official repair guidance for the dataset.
