- This line data layer represents traffic volumes for Dane County, Wisconsin in 2000. The dataset was originally published by the Madison Area Transportation Planning Board in 2000.[This layer is a detailed line coverage of the Dane County roadway network. The line work was developed as part of the Fly Dane 1995 orthophotography project. This data set has been joined with the master street name file and published in shapefile format; attributes from both datasets are described below.]

- This layer is intended for reference and mapping purposes and may be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production or to provide a basemap to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data. - [The road centerline data was created as part of the Fly Dane 1995 project. The dataset was produced from breaklines created in the terrain modeling process. The centerlines were exported from the DTM to a vector file. The Dane County Land Information Office and Madison Area Metropolitan Planning Organization QA/QC the data and filling in any missing segments. Short Elliot Hendrickson, Inc. attached county and Madison Area Metropolitan Planning Organization attribute information contained in the 1995 road centerline file, and developed a master street name database to manage roadway name attributes. The master street name database is a first compilation from best available regulatory sources. Town road names were obtained from the Dane County Surveyor's town road name file and supplemented with names from county parcel maps as needed. Conflicts with town road names were resolved using Dane County rural address maps. City and village road names were acquired from the County Clerk (based on municipal clerk reporting) and supplemented with names from county parcel maps as needed. Conflicts with city and village road names were resolved using county parcel maps. Location conflicts were resolved using these same data sets, together with the Dane County Road Map, plat books and other mapping resources. The LIO completed a detailed quality review for connectivity of roadway segments and completeness of attribution. The data set was completely reviewed by several departments and agencies that included the County Surveyor, Highway, Madison Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. Additionally, data from the City of Fitchburg and City of Sun Prairie was used to review the related street names. Transportation planning and other specialized attributes will be moved to separate database tables as part of update to 2003.]
