Abstract
This line data layer represents water table contours for Gogebic County, Michigan in 2008. The dataset was originally published by the Michigan State University Remote Sensing amp; GIS Research and Outreach Services in 2008. Dates have been assumed based on the date the shapefile was last edited.[Individual county first water contour datasets represent the elevation of the first water (water table) in 10-foot intervals across the landscape. Each first water contour dataset was created using the contour function in ArcGIS Spatial Analyst, version 8.3.][Groundwater Inventory and Mapping Project, a cooperative effort between the Water Bureau - Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, USGS - Michigan Water Science Center and Michigan State University - Institute of Water Research, RSamp;GIS and Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering. This project was mandated by P.A. 148 (Michigan Acts of 2003). Major funding was provided by MDEQ, supplemented with additional funds from the USGS Cooperative Water Program.]
Purpose
This layer is intended for reference and mapping purposes and may be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production or to provide a basemap to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data. [This dataset is intended to give a general overview of the first water (water table) elevation for the purposes of groundwater management.]
