Leaves collected from these areas are transported to approved compost sites, diverting approximately 2,000 tons of material from the waste stream. The division deploys sweepers, leaf machines, end loaders, and blowers systematically throughout the program. High-generation areas are identified by street supervisors in collaboration with Urban Forestry, the Cuyahoga County Tree Canopy initiative, and the Mayor's Office of Sustainability. Leaf pick-up signage is posted one week in advance to notify residents to move leaves to the tree lawn. Additional signage reminds residents not to park on the street during collection days. Residents are advised not to rake leaves into the street, as this can clog sewers, create traffic hazards, and interfere with snow and ice control. Citywide, residents may bag up to 20 leaf bags and place them out with regular trash during leaf season. Depending on volume and weather, trash may be collected before bagged leaves. Alternatively, residents may mulch leaves by mowing and using them in gardens and landscapes. Data Glossary See the Attributes section below for details about each column in this dataset.
