City of South BendThis historic dataset provides information about complaints filed by members of the public against South Bend Police Department. It includes the month and year of the complaint, the type, and the disposition or outcome. This dataset is from 2016 - June 2021. Things to note about this dataset: Regardless of whether a complaint is filed, all uses of force go through the investigation process. The Admin Investigations column indicates whether or not an additional misconduct, that was not related to what the original complaint was for, is discovered by SBPD staff while investigating the community complaint. (Ex, a driving infraction is noted by SBPD staff while reviewing a community complaint about professionalism). Excessive Force and Use of Force are two different complaint types. Excessive Force questions if the amount of force was necessary while Use of Force questions whether the use of any force was necessary. Open investigations are not part of this dataset, as they have not concluded yet.
