This data resides in a geodatabase created through the Drainage Records Modernization and GIS Database Project to enable local drainage authorities to standardize their records in digital form for improved drainage management and planning. In addition, portions of it were intended for use in third-party hydrographic studies and modeling. For more information on the project, a collaborative effort by the Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) and the Minnesota Geospatial Information Office (MnGeo), see: https://www.bwsr.state.mn.us/drainage-minnesota Drainage systems were mapped based on a variety of sources including engineering drawings, aerial photos and LiDAR. The information should be considered the best available information at the time of the data updates to represent a planning level as-builts in GIS. There are often gaps in historical information, so it is advised to always consult the legal drainage authorities if questions arise. This dataset should not be used for any legal decisions.
