- This data represents trails for Dane County, WI in 2026. [This layer consists of the Existing Off-road Bicycle/Pedestrian Trails, Proposed Off-road Bicycle/Pedestrian Trails, Water Trails and Proposed Bicycle Pedestrian Ferry as identified in the Dane County 2012 - 2017 Parks and Open Space Plan. The Existing and Proposed Off-road Bicycle/Pedestrian Trails conceptually illustrate a trail system that connects the majority of the major population centers to county park facilities and other regional trails. The Proposed Bicycle Pedestrian Ferry illustrates an idea to connect Middleton and Governor Nelson State Park to downtown Madison by a ferry route across Lake Mendota. Water trails provide trail opportunities on a number of lakes, streams and rivers in Dane County. Capitol Water Trails Ltd. has been spearheading most of the water trail development efforts in Dane County and maintains detailed trail maps available on the Capitol Water Trails website at www.capitolwatertrails.org.]

- This data is intended for reference and mapping purposes, and may be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production, or to provide a basemap to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data. [The purpose of the layer is to geographically display the conceptual alignment of existing and proposed trails that are identified in the Dane County 2012 - 2017 Parks and Open Space Plan.]
