New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), Fish and Wildlife (FW), Office of Fish and Wildlife Information SystemsNew Jersey's Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs Program is an effort led by NJDEP Fish and Wildlife to get kids involved in positive recreational activities. The goal of New Jersey's program is to encourage school-aged children to avoid tobacco, drug and alcohol usage by providing alternative activities that involve learning to fish, appreciating aquatic and environmental resources, and developing positive life skills. A part of this program is the Youth Fishing Challenge, typically held the first weekend in June, which allows youth teams to compete for prizes.
