FWS WC public sightings reporting database [U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service]
Description
Feature layer associated with a Survey123 form for collecting information on whooping crane sightings from partners. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service evaluates all submissions to confirm sightings and ensure data accuracy. Confirmed whooping crane sightings are summarized for sharing with partners and are added to a Service database of historical sightings. Information collected includes details of the whooping crane observation (date and time of observation; number of cranes; optics used and distance from crane; presence of color bands; crane behaviors; sites and habitats used; other species present) and location (state and county; nearest town; conservation areas; accuracy of location). The best estimate of the crane's location can be input as latitude and longitude, or the survey mapper can be used to estimate the location from landmarks.
