This group includes the collection of the U.S. housing related data such as Fair Market Rents, used as the basis for payment standards in the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. It also includes the Income Limits, i.e. income thresholds for determining eligibility for housing assistance. The Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) is the most important resource for creating affordable housing in the United States today. In addition to the LIHTC, the U.S. government has subsidized housing for renters with low incomes since the Housing Act of 1937, i.e. the programs that offer subsidies to reduce rents. Most of the programs are paid for by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). There is also the U.S. Building Permits Survey that provides national, state and local statistics on new privately-owned residential construction. This data includes the number of buildings, number of housing units, and permit valuation by size of structure. Data on permits issued for new construction are available monthly and annually. U.S. Housing Data is a category of data layers within the Social Explorer application. To find individual datasets, log in to Social Explorer, select a category, and browse to the desired layer.
