Fish Hatcheries in Pacific Northwest [U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service]
Description
Since the inception of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1871, fisheries conservation has been an important part of the agency's mission. In the Pacific Northwest, salmon fisheries play a critical historical, cultural, and economic role in the region's identity.Fish hatcheries are facilities where Tribes, local, state, and the federal governments breed, grow, study, and protect fish. Hatcheries contribute to sustainable fisheries, improve fish health, provide insight into fish and their ecosystems, and give sustenance of the people and animals that depend on them.Join us as we tour the Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery, located about 50 miles east of Portland.
