Title
Bikeways [Minnesota]
Description
This dataset shows linear bikeways throughout Minnesota. Data is gathered through annual update requests of many public partners including County and Municipal contacts, Metropolitan Planning Organizations, Regional Development Commissions and the Minnesota DNR. Updates are occasionally provided by private partners including the MTB project and consulting agencies. Comments and corrections people submit on the Minnesota Bikeways Crowdsourcing App also inform the dataset. The data is vetted and maintained by the Geographic Information Mapping unit in the MnDOT Transportation System Management Office, and staff in the Transit and Active Transportation Office of MnDOT. The initial dataset was developed in partnership with the Minnesota Geospatial Advisory Council, and the Minnesota Geospatial Information Office. It will improve the ability to share data resources between parties by reducing incompatibilities when acquiring, processing, storing, and disseminating bikeways data. This data set will be useful to local, regional, and state governments for identifying network gaps within and between jurisdictions, easing data transfer between all levels of government and across partnering stakeholder organizations, and – in context with other feature classes / shapefiles – providing data critical for level of service, level of traffic stress and other network evaluations., Data is published weekly to the GeoCommons, but maybe maintained on a different cycle.
