This dataset reflects the agreed upon community designation between a community and the Metropolitan Council and is intended to supplement ThriveMSP 2040 - the planning guide for the 7-county Twin Cities metropolitan area of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota. Community designations definitions and strategies for the designations are available in the ThriveMSP 2040 document. For questions about how decisions were made regarding individual communities' designations, please contact the Metropolitan Council Regional Policy and Research staff, Dan Marckel, 651-602-1548. See Currentness Reference and Lineage in Data Quality Section of this metadata for more information.</dc:description><dc:description>This dataset was created to allow the depictions of ThriveMSP 2040 Community Designations.</dc:description><dc:description>Planning areas were first defined to analyze land use and development trends and socio-economic characteristics to assist in preparing the Council's 1975 Metropolitan Development Framework. They have subsequently been used for a wide range of general analysis purposes. These areas were defined to reflect stages of development of metropolitan area communities. A major factor in their determination has been the proportion of land developed. As such, these areas have been periodically adjusted to reflect the continued outward growth of the region. The Metropolitan Council originally approval the 2040 community designations on May 28, 2014. As communities adopted their 2040 Comprehensive Plans, changes to community designations will be made to reflect municipal boundaries and Metropolitan Urban Service Areas (MUSA) in their plans. Data is current as of January 2, 2025.</dc:description><dc:format>Files</dc:format><dc:identifier>us-mn-state-metc-society-thrive-msp2040-com-des</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:rights>Public</dc:rights><dc:title>ThriveMSP 2040 Community Designations [Minnesota]</dc:title><dc:type>Datasets</dc:type><dc:coverage>Minnesota--Anoka County</dc:coverage><dc:coverage>Minnesota--Carver County</dc:coverage><dc:coverage>Minnesota--Dakota County</dc:coverage><dc:coverage>Minnesota--Hennepin County</dc:coverage><dc:coverage>Minnesota--Ramsey County</dc:coverage><dc:coverage>Minnesota--Scott County</dc:coverage><dc:coverage>Minnesota--Washington County</dc:coverage><dc:coverage>Minnesota--Twin Cities Metropolitan Area</dc:coverage><dc:coverage>Minnesota</dc:coverage><dc:date>2025-01-02</dc:date><dc:contributor>Minnesota Geospatial Commons</dc:contributor></oai_dc:dc>
