City of DetroitThe Public Lighting Authority of Detroit (PLA) is a special-purpose authority governed by an appointed Board of Directors. Its operations are funded by the City of Detroit. The PLA is responsible for maintaining and servicing streetlights located within public Rights-of-Way. This dataset is part of an ongoing asset verification and improvement effort. As information is reviewed and confirmed, updates may include refinements to existing records and the addition of assets to ensure the dataset continues to reflect current conditions.Because this work is active and evolving, users may notice periodic changes. Monthly updates are made on a regular basis to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information available. This layer distinguishes between pole ownership and light ownership to support clearer asset tracking and cross-departmental coordination. For PLA assets, pole owner identifies the owner of the physical pole, while light owner reflects ownership of the luminaire.The pole owner field is a recent addition as part of ongoing data improvement efforts, and values will continue to be populated as asset verification progresses. This layer is actively maintained and will be updated on a monthly basis to reflect the most current and verified information. Each record in this dataset contains a streetlight, its location, pole and light ownership, and nearest address. Note that the nearest address field is provided from PLA.
