- From Students to Stewards: Michigan Freshwater Education Resources and Partners [Michigan]
- Description
- The information in this database was reviewed, updated, and compiled through the summers of 2024 and 2025 . It was collected by compiling information from websites and in some cases through requesting updated information via email or phone from organizations doing work around freshwater education and stewardship resources. This also includes state-led freshwater stewardship resources and programs in the state of Michigan. The information was most recently updated in January 2026 and will be updated at least annually. The form to submit upated or new information will be available online year-round. This database was developed and shared to provide resources and information to anyone interested in beginning, continuing, or expanding their work to incorporate these learning practices and gain literacy beyond the classroom about the Great Lakes and stewarding local water resources. Many of these resources are focused on teachers and students, but there are some that are available to all. This data is updated annually. The geographic extent of the data is the state of Michigan, organized by the county in which partners are located or where their resources are applicable. Address This can be the organizations address or in some cases the location where the program is held. Phone Number This is the best phone number to contact the organization for additional information, if available (This is often the POC's phone number). Email This is the best email to contact the organization for additional information, if available. Program Name of the program(s) or topic(s) as listed on the resource's website. Can be general description of type of programming available or information about a specific program. Program Type A filterable option that allows users to search by two categories: State-led program or Non-profit, private programs. Audience Category A filterable option that allows users to search by the primary audience of the program or the primary group the program serves. Other audiences are described in the resourse description if available. Grade A filterable option that allows users to search by the grade or grade range for which the program is designed. For example, Grade 3 material could be either a program in which 3 rd graders can participate, or training for a 3 rd grade teacher to apply in the classroom. Anything that is not a K-12 resource is ‘other,' and is defined in the ‘Audience Category' column. Resource Category A filterable option that allows users to search by types of resources offered through this program. Examples include summer camps, field trips, and lesson plans. In some cases, a partner does not offer regular programs, but might be able to provide an individualized program, share general resources, or be a local partner. This category is labeled "Local resource/local expert." Resource Description Where additional information was available, this column provides additional information and a narrative description of the specific resource. For example, this column may include the length of time and activities included in a field trip or family program. Professional Development This refers to training or educational materials related to work, such as lesson plans or training on Michigan water policy. Prosperity Regions Collection of 10 prosperity regions developed by the Regional Prosperity Initiative, which was created by Governor Rick Snyder to encourage vibrant regional economies. County A filterable option of the county or group of counties in which the entity does their work or has resources available to support or inform others' work. Description of Area Served Where available, further information about where the organization is located or able to travel to for the offered resource. Costs Where available, this has the price of the program, whether per person or flat rate. This is the cost at the time of posting this database and may not reflect the current cost.
