Cook_County_GISDescription: The Brownfields Public Viewer polygons feature class includes parcels (i.e. properties) which have received environmental assessment or remediation assistance from the Cook County Brownfield Program. Typically, the Cook County Brownfield Program funds and facilitates projects including, but not limited to, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Phase II ESAs, remediation projects, and industrial hygiene assessments. Please note, the Brownfield Mapper does not depict all potential brownfield sites within Cook County - only sites which have received funding from the Cook County Brownfield Program. Inclusion on this list does not confirm a property is, or was, environmentally contaminated. Publicly available environmental reports may be requested for properties associated with the Brownfields Public polygon layer. Until all environmental reports are digitized, please submit a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request to Cook County's Office of the President to request copies of reports for a specific property. The earliest data in this feature class dates to 2014. This dataset will be updated multiple times annually, as additional properties receive assistance from the program.
