Department of Natural Resources</dc:creator><dc:description>The Mt. Simon-Hinckley aquifer is the deepest bedrock aquifer in south-central/southeastern Minnesota, including the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. The aquifer is often overlain by sand and gravel, and bedrock aquifers which provide ample groundwater. The margins of the Mt. Simon-Hinckley aquifer have been identified as areas of focused recharge. Near the margins, the Mt. Simon-Hinckley aquifer may be the only available groundwater source. State statutes limit present use, protecting the aquifer as last resort for the future.</dc:description><dc:description>This product can be used to identify the areal extent of the protected Mt. Simon-Hinckley aquifer. When combined with other bedrock and Quaternary geological data, it can be used to identify areas where the Mt. Simon-Hinckley aquifer may be the only usable groundwater source or where shallower usable sources are available. This GIS extent coverage can be used for planning, management, scientific, and other purposes.</dc:description><dc:description>data were acquired February 2022</dc:description><dc:format>Files</dc:format><dc:identifier>geos-mtsimon-hinckley-aquifer</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:rights>Public</dc:rights><dc:title>Areal extent of the Mt.
