New Jersey Highlands CouncilThis data set was developed to correspond to language in the codified version of the NJ Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act (P.L. 2004, Chapter 120) and in support of the 2008 Regional Master Plan.The entire area of the Highlands Region in New Jersey is divided between the Highlands Preservation Area, in which development is more strictly regulated, and the Highlands Planning Area. Any major development project proposed in the Preservation Area must undergo extensive reviews specific to the Highlands, but the NJDEP Division of Land Use Regulation.
