The pet placement organizations were originally collected in 2017 by the Washington Invasive Species Council (WISC) as part of the Don't Let It Loose campaign to prevent release of unwanted pets into the wild. For more information, see Washington Invasive Species Council and Don't Let It Loose . Abandoned pets and plants that are released into the wild can become a serious problem. Never release unwanted home or classroom pets, animals, or plants into the wild, such as rivers, streams, lakes, or storm water ponds. Most unwanted pets will not survive in the wild and may suffer before death. If it does manage to survive, it can harm the environment and economy. Invasive species cost the United States billions of dollars each year. Some of the most devastating invasive species originally were sold as pets or plants for gardens, ponds, and aquariums.</dc:description><dc:format>ArcGIS DynamicMapLayer</dc:format><dc:identifier>https://hub.arcgis.com/datasets/5753c0a295464ce187011d732e1bb6fc_0</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:publisher>State of Washington Geospatial Open Data Portal</dc:publisher><dc:rights>Public</dc:rights><dc:title>WISC Pet Placement Organizations [Washington (State)]</dc:title><dc:type>Web services</dc:type><dc:coverage>Washington (State)</dc:coverage><dc:date>Last Modified: 2024-07-08</dc:date></oai_dc:dc>
