(was named "DMU_Within_487" 2023oct-middle, but before StrongM's content-wide review and upgrade/update to DNR-Portal content descriptors and info)... refers to polyline-format data DMU Boundaries within multi-county-sized DMU 487. Note: be aware that another resource layer called "DMUs within DMU487_polygons (feature-layer-hosted)" ... which is similar but not the same as this data resource, refers to polygon-format data DMU Boundaries within DMU 487 - see the description for more summary information. ... make sure to use the correct version. Note: "DMUs_within_DMU487_polygons (data-service-definition or hosted-features)" ... which is similar but not the same as "DMU within 487 polyline (data-service-definition or hosted-features)" ... make sure to use the correct version of data-service-definition or hosted-layer and either polygon-format data or polyline-format data This data resource refers to EITHER polygon-format data -or- line-format data DMU Boundaries within DMU 487 - see the description for more summary information. For either one, the "Service definition" leads to the hosted-feature-layer. This data resource relates to DMU487 and DMU Boundaries within DMU487; DMU487 is a larger multi-county DMU that is comprised of multiple counties (or pieces) and a central DMU452 which is over the 4-corners and includes pieces of 3 counties (Alpena, Alcona, Montmorency, and Oscoda counties) but not all of those 4 counties; in total DMU487 covers Presque-Isle, Montmorency, Alpena, Oscoda, Alcona, and Iosco counties. However, be aware that there are still defined DMUs in the Wildlife Conservation Order that include those counties and DMU452, etc. in addition to the multi-county DMU487; DMU487 was created for allowing a multi-county regional management tool for both deer population and harvest or quota planning which spans the core DMU452 created in response to bovine-TB in the NE-lower-peninsula many years ago, and the counties surrounding DMU452 in that local regional area. Relevancy and applicability of DMU487 or the smaller county-sized DMUs, requires additional information not included in the spatial data layer attribute fields nor in the presence/extent of those polygons, but requires understanding past and current rules-and-regulations for deer and by DNR, law enforcement, etc. This data resource is used with ... Deer Management Units (or DMUs) Viewer is a tool to easily see the current DMUs across the state; however, the map viewer tool does not show the various related complications and interrelated rules and regulations affecting activities within a given DMU, etc. Please see the DNR online deer information , for more information supplementing the DMU representations. DMUs are defined as specific geographical areas that split the entire State of Michigan into smaller pieces, and which allow the DNR to identify, manage, and communicate about various deer populations or deer management dynamics for a specific land-extent (polygon) area with all the other DMUs in Michigan. The official representation of any Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) game or nongame species management units such as deer (DMUs) are the official legal text/language definitions as stated in the Michigan Wildlife Conservation Order (chapter 12) &amp;/or in the DNR Land-Use Orders of the Director (LUOoD) , and are not any geospatial data or map product. GIS data, such as this DMU data layer, or maps produced with GIS data, are simply a tool of convenience and are not official or legal products or representations. Purpose: DMUs allow DNR staff, particularly those in the DNR Wildlife Division, to make strategic and operational management decisions concerning Michigan's white-tailed deer populations. DMUs are created based on a variety of considerations like land ownership patterns, habitat, weather conditions, deer herd estimates, deer population management needs like harvest quotas, and other factors; DMUs are typically county-sized but some DMUs are actually aggregations of several DMUs in order to make a regional DMU which usually is used to represent management activities common across those individual DMUs and in order to more easily explain or present the larger area to cooperators, collaborators and public users like deer hunters. From a public perspective , for the majority, DMUs serve as the representational boundaries for hunters who take part in the various types of deer hunts throughout the fall deer hunting seasons, and are the extent representing the potential area where a hunter can use a purchased license (for an offered DMU in a specific hunt period in a specific hunt season or type).</dc:description><dc:format>ArcGIS FeatureLayer</dc:format><dc:identifier>https://hub.arcgis.com/datasets/4cde5f68e3974e7db2b9cdbc5c1c3077_0</dc:identifier><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:publisher>State of Michigan Open Data Portal</dc:publisher><dc:rights>Public</dc:rights><dc:title>DMUs within DMU487 polygons feature-layer-hosted [Michigan]</dc:title><dc:type>Web services</dc:type><dc:coverage>Michigan</dc:coverage><dc:date>Last Modified: 2023-11-03</dc:date></oai_dc:dc>
