Title
Satellite detected water extents over Pinar del Río province, Cuba as of 28 September 2022
Description
**UNOSAT code TC20221001CUB, GDACS Id: 1000923** This map illustrates satellite-detected surface waters in Pinar del Río province, Cuba as observed from a Sentinel-1 imagery acquired on 28 September 2022 at 07:27 local time. Within the analyzed area of about 1,300 km², a total of about 27 km² of lands appear to be affected with flood waters amongst which 13 km² are flooded croplands. Based on Worldpop population data and the detected surface waters, about 4,200 people are potentially exposed or living close to flooded areas. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT). Important note: Flood analysis from radar images may underestimate the presence of standing waters in built-up areas and densely vegetated areas due to backscattering properties of the radar signal.
