Current Federal Highlands Boundary Update [U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service]
Description
This dataset depicts the Federal Highlands region boundary for the Highlands Conservation Act. This boundary was most recently updated in September of 2024 and includes all areas eligible for funding via the Highlands Conservation Act Grant Program (https://www.fws.gov/program/highlands-conservation-act-grant). The area encompasses the towns and municipalities that comprise the Highlands region of Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania as defined in the New York-New Jersey Highlands Regional Study: 2002 Update (United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, Northeastern Area State and Private Forestry, December 2002, NA-TP-02-03), and the Highlands Regional Study: Connecticut and Pennsylvania 2010 update (United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, Northeastern Area State and Private Forestry, Newton Square, PA, November 2010, NA-TP-01-11), and updated in 2024 to include municipalities proposed for inclusion by the Highlands states with concurrence of the municipality and approval by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as authorized in 2022.
