Michigan Dept. of Environment, Great Lakes, and EnergyA 'Designated Sand Dune area" is an area designated by statute that includes those geomorphic features composed primarily of sand, whether windblown or of other origin and that lies within 2 miles of the ordinary high-water mark on a Great Lake. This data set was originally created from maps used in the "Designated and Critical Sand Dune Areas" pamphlet published by Geological Survey Division in 1996.
