Michigan Department of Natural ResourcesRailtrails are the trails that were formerly railroad corridors that have been converted to recreational trails. Railtrail surface type can vary from asphalt to crushed limstone, to a minimally improved natural surface. Railtrails can be nonmotorized, motorized, or mixed-use motorized and nonmotorized. The trails are located on State, Federal, County, Local, and Private Lands.
