U.S. Fish & Wildlife ServiceThis dataset depicts the land conservation projects completed under the Highlands Conservation Act Grant Program as of September, 2024. The Highlands region spans four states, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The grant program supports land acquisition projects that are led by state agencies and conserve key resources outlined in the act including clean drinking water, healthy forests, thriving wildlife populations, productive agriculture, and abundant recreational opportunities. Since the passage of the act in 2004, $48 million in federal funds, matched by $74 million in non-federal funds, have been awarded to permanently protect 16,226 acres of land.
