Description
The upper Sacramento River in California contains spawning and rearing habitat for the Southern Distinct Population Segment (DPS) of North American Green SturgeonAcipensermedirostris. In 2006, National Marine Fisheries Service published notification of the listing of the Southern DPS of North American Green Sturgeon as Threatened (71 FR 17757). The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service'sMainstemJuvenile MonitoringProgramin Red Bluff, California has been investigating the outmigration of juvenile green sturgeon from the upper Sacramento River to theSacramento- San JoaquinDelta. In 2016, 19 individual juvenile green sturgeon were tagged with two types of Juvenile Salmon Acoustic Telemetry System (JSATS) micro-acoustic tags. Their outmigration towards theDeltawas monitored by the use of the JSATS receiver array maintained through a collaborative effort by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.This map depicts where our JSATS tagged juvenile green sturgeon were released back into the system.
