Illinois Department of TransportationRoad Weather Information Systems, known as RWIS, are used to monitor road conditions and make decisions on how to maintain safe driving conditions. RWIS stations may include atmospheric and pavement sensors that measure temperature, dew point, wind speed and direction, visibility and precipitation information. RWIS data is used by the Department to support decision making.
