Satellite detected water extents from 3 to 10 December 2024 in the Jaffna District, Northern Province, Sri Lanka
Description
**UNOSAT code: FL20241128LKA** This map illustrates cumulative satellite-detected water extent from multiple satellites in the Jaffna District, Northern Province, Sri Lanka from 3 to 10 December 2024. Within the cloud-free analysed area of approximately 760 km², an estimated 84 km² of land is observed to be affected by floodwaters, with around 43 km² of cropland Based on WorldPop spatial demographic data, approximately 2,400 people are exposed to or living near the flooded areas. Additionally, 3,400 buildings have been identified as potentially affected. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field.
