City of DetroitThis dataset is maintained by the City of Detroit's Department of Public Works (DPW), Complete Streets Division. It is based on the Michigan Geographic Framework (Version 12b) and uses the regional road network to identify roadways with existing bicycle facilities across Southeast Michigan. The data captures existing bicycle routes; local, county, regional, state, and national, as well as the various types of bicycle facilities. Bicycle Facility Definitions: Bike Lanes : Designated painted lanes on the road for biking, marked with lines, bike symbols, and signs to separate cyclists from vehicle traffic. Signed Routes : Bike routes marked only with signs (no pavement markings), often used for neighborhood connectors. Share the Road Routes : Routes with signs and bike symbols on pavement. Indicating cyclists and motorists may use the full road. Shared-Use Paths : Off-street paths shared by cyclists, pedestrians, and other non-motorized users (ex: scooters). Protected Bike Lanes : Bike lanes that are physically separated from traffic, usually with delineators or concrete barriers. Buffered Bike Lanes : Painted buffered space between vehicle traffic lane and bike lane. Route Type Defintions: On -Road : Bicycle route located within the street right-of-way shared between cyclists and motorists. On-Road Adjacent : Bicycle route located within the street right-of-way separated by paint, buffer, curb, parking lane. These routes allow cyclists to travel separated from vehicle traffic. Off-Street : Bicycle route on an independent path or trail separated from streets and motor vehicle traffic.
