Abstract
[This dataset includes boundaries for the Wisconsin Technical College System regions. This layer was created using unified and secondary public school district boundaries for the state of Wisconsin. Authoritative information used to create this dataset came from the Wisconsin Technical College board policy manualwhich was current as of December 2017 and last updated in November 2012.Each year, there is a chance for reorganizations to take place that either transfer territory between school districts or consolidate/dissolve/create districts. These reorganizations go into effect on July 1st of each year. Changes in school district boundaries have the potential to effect technical college boundaries. In 2018, there were no reorganizations that caused changes in technical college boundaries.]
Purpose
[This polygon layer contains the regions of the Wisconsin Technical College System for 2018.] This layer is intended for reference and mapping purposes, and may be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production, or to provide a basemap to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data

Lineage
Statement
This layer was produced using the unified and secondary public school district boundaries for the state of Wisconsin. The school district boundary datasets was derived from county data. For more information about the Wisconsin school district boundaries datasets, please refer to their metadata. There are 16 regions of the Wisconsin Technical College System. The territory within each region (or "district" as they are referred to by Wisconsin state statutes) is described in Policy Number 204 of the Wisconsin Technical College board policy manual. Each territory contains the whole of or parts of counties, municipalities, and public school districts. This polygon layer was built up from the statewide school district boundaries layer from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. A County Boundaries (2015) polygon layer for the state of Wisconsin distributed by the Arthur H. Robinson Map Library (University of Wisconsin-Madison) and originating from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was also used as a reference layer. To build up Wisconsin Technical College (WTC) regions layer, the statewide layers for unified school district boundaries and secondary school district boundaries were merged into one. A technical college region attribute field was added to the layer. Using the board policy manual, school districts that were wholly within a WTC region received their corresponding region as an attribute. Using the county boundaries layer as a reference, school districts that were in two different regions were split along county lines using the Cut Polygons tool and the resulting polygons received their corresponding region as an attribute. After digitizing was complete and every polygon had a WTC region attribute, the Dissolve tool was used on the layer. The layer was then checked for errors.
