Description:
This layer provides the total yearly economic value of ecosystem services provided by forest and wetland areas across the state of Maryland. This value is a summation of the economic value of all ecosystem services analyzed through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources "Accounting for Maryland Ecosystem Services" program. Services included are atmospheric pollution removal (carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, particulate matter 10, particulate matter 2.5, and sulfur dioxide), carbon sequestration, groundwater recharge, nitrogen removal, flood prevention and stormwater mitigation, wildlife habitat and biodiverisy, and surface water protection. The total economic value of eocsystem services provided by forest and wetland areas across Maryland is over $8.02 billion yearly. This data layer was created as part of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources "Accounting for Maryland's Ecosystem Services" program.This is a MD iMAP hosted service.
