Washington State Department of TransportationThis feature class represents WSDOT's Habitat Connectivity Investment Priorities (HCIP), as well as primary products of the Washington Habitat Connectivity Action Plan (WAHCAP 2025). It provides priority ranks for individual one-mile segments of the entire state highway system for two primary categories related to habitat connectivity (Wildlife-Related Safety and Ecological Value), and a third blended category called Highest Rank. It contains all the data required to symbolize three distinct priority layers: 1) Wildlife-Related Safety - a measure of wildlife-vehicle collision potential based primarily on five-year subsets (2019-2023) of large-bodied wildlife carcass removals and wildlife-vehicle collision reports, 2) Ecological Value - a measure of connectivity value at the state highway interface that emphasizes structural habitat connectivity and biodiversity which is the product of the Landscape Connectivity Value map of the Washington Habitat Connectivity Action Plan (WAHCAP) and traffic volume, and 3) Highest Rank - the highest rank of either the Wildlife-related Safety or Ecological Value categories - a blended category of WSDOT's HCIP that allows you to quickly see a highway segment's highest rank between either primary category of the HCIP. Collectively, HCIP and WAHCAP products can be used by WSDOT and partners to focus efforts to maintain or improve wildlife connectivity and reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions along the state highway system.
