In this analysis, vulnerability is represented as the weighted combination of exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity of a transit rider at a transit point (bus stops and rail stations), as shown in the equation below: Transit Rider Vulnerability Score = (Exposure Score)(33.3%) + (Sensitivity Score)(33.3%) + (Adaptive Capacity Score)(33.3%) For each transit point, exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity indicators were scored on a scale of one to three. These scores were then weighted and added together to determine the total vulnerability score, with three being the highest possible score. A higher transit rider vulnerability score represents higher vulnerability of transit riders to extreme heat effects. The TRV is one element of broader data analysis for the Risk-based Vulnerability Assessment meant to inform the Transportation Resilience Improvement Plan (TRIP).
