- Illinois Beach State Park - Topobathymetric Models [Illinois]
- Description
- Singlebeam echosounder data were collected in the nearshore region of the Illinois Beach State Park in Zion, IL at 9 locations (IBSP1-6, Park Office, Swimming Beach, and North Point Beach) from 2018 to present. These bathymetric measurements were paired with onshore topographic data, captured using a drone (unmanned aerial system, UAS) to create a comprehensive dataset. The drone was employed to generate digital elevation models (DEMs) through structure-from-motion photogrammetry (SfM) techniques. Each DEM, and its associated orthomosaicand files, are published separately on the ISGS Clearinghouse. The bathymetric data and DEM are integrated using GIS to produce topobathymetric models. Data for sites 2 and 3 were merged together given location proximity and consideration of system dynamics. The same applies to data for the Park Office and Swimming Beach. Sites 4, 5, and 6 are also merged together into one model. Data collection was part of a multi-year monitoring program aimed at measuring lake bottom elevation and monitoring changes therein. This work is funded by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Coastal Management Program.
